League:Shared Gaming Settings
Shared Gaming Settings allow for gaming groups to play using a collaborative setting.
For example, let's say you play a tabletop role-playing game. You and your friends may run through a campaign and along the way develop a tiny piece of a fantasy setting. You know people who play a miniature wargame, and they role-play out battles between each other's opposing forces. With a Shared Gaming Setting, both of your groups of friends can play games set in the same part of the same fantasy world.
You and your friends may want to coordinate your games, so your tabletop role-players might play a campaign that revolves around a way they are trying to end, while the miniature wargamers play a major battle in that war. Both campaigns can therefore interact and play off each other. This idea can be expanded with people writing short stories that continue to develop the setting, developing video or online games that take place in the shared setting, etc.
Note that all contributors must agree to the Open Setting License (see the Theonosis FAQ for more).
[edit] How do I do it?
Theonosis Publishing sponsors the following three wikis:
- Theonosis is a universal fantasy setting.
- ThirdFleet is a universal science fiction setting.
- You are currently on the Open World League wiki, which is an incubator for other open settings and the primary real world/contemporary wiki.
You may choose any one or all three of these wikis and just start making pages describing your setting. These projects are slowly building in published content, so there is no organization to this project as of yet. Please add a link to a central hub for your setting to this page, and we will work out the details as we go. Modrobene is the primary organizer here, and feel free to email him at modrobene@theonosis.com if you have any questions or want to know what projects are currently looking for contributors.
